Most referrals to other specialists will require you seeing or speaking with a GP. However, there are a number of local services, listed below, that you are able to make self referrals to.
Patient Assessment and Liaison Mental Health Service (PALMS)
Are you worried about your mental health? Feeling overwhelmed or low and need to talk to someone about seeking relevant support? You can self-refer to PALMS for consultation. Who is this service for? Anyone aged 16-64 years who is experiencing mental health difficulties, individuals aged 16-17 years who are not enrolled in school education,
you are not currently seeing a mental health professional (e.g. psychologist, mental health nurse, or psychiatrist).
you might be struggling with low mood.
Sexual Health Tayside
Supporting people to have healthy, positive sexual health and wellbeing including all aspects of blood borne virus prevention, testing, treatment and care.
Help with your Weight
If you or the individual you are supporting is overweight, losing weight has many health benefits. Making small, simple changes to what and how much you are eating and drinking can really help you lose the pounds. The NHS Tayside Adult Weight Management Service has information on understanding your weight which will allow you to determine whether you are overweight or obese and the implications this has on your health.

We provide care during pregnancy, labour birth and postnatally for over 4,500 women and pregnant people and their babies each year in our maternity units at Arbroath, Dundee and Perth. CONTACT NUMBERS: Maternity Triage - Tel. 01382 632075.

SOS (Sources of Support)
The SOS service is for patients aged 16 or over whose mental health and wellbeing are affected by social and economic issues such as debt, housing, benefit support or similar. The link workers negotiate, liaise, advocate and communicate on the patient's behalf at the same time as they help to build the capacity and resilience of the patient to deal with issues themselves If you're interested in accessing the service please contact reception.
First Contact Physiotherapy
The First Contact Physiotherapy model (FCP) is an alternative to GP appointments for musculoskeletal problems (MSK).Instead of seeing a GP about a new muscle, joint or back problem, you will be given an appointment with a senior Physiotherapist. So your first contact will be with the physiotherapist, not the doctor. Reception staff at each practice - who are now also patient advisers - have been trained to offer patients appointments with the Physiotherapist where this is appropropriate.
Podiatry (Foot Functions)
Podiatry is a medical speciality which diagnosis and treats foot related problems of patient with an assessed risk; providing education and support for self management in order to promote foot health. Referral to the service can be made by Self Referral / Practice Nurse / Community Nurse / Healthcare Professional / GP.

Community Listening Service
Many of us find it helpful to talk, particularly during stressful events at home or work, or after a bereavement or loss. Telling your story uninterrupted and judgment-free could help you to sort through your emotions. You may then be able to rediscover your strength and find a way forward. The service is available to anyone registered with a Tayside GP practice, to make an appointment call or email.

Dundee Drug and Alcohol Recovery Service
We want to make it as easy as possible for you to access drug or alcohol treatment services. Drug and alcohol treatment in Dundee is provided by the Substance Use Service. The service is available via a multi-disciplinary direct-access 'drop-in' assessment clinic. Anyone seeking treatment with our service should attend a drop-in assessment session, available at the following times (except public holidays).

NHS Tayside School Nursing Service
School Nurses across NHS Tayside,(Perth & Kinross, Angus and Dundee) work with school age children and young people who have been referred into the service. They offer support around various issues including substance misuse, emotional health, sexual health and abuse. The School Nurse referral form can be completed for any child, young person or family wishing to access support by a teacher in the school. Young people over the age of 12 years can also self- refer into the service.

Bereavement support outreach services - voluntary service working in Dundee. Can help with funeral arrangements, support to apply for financial assistance, referring onto other appropriate agencies and there is no time limit on the length of time they can give support

First Contact Team
The First Contact Team provides a first point of contact for anyone living in the community, aged 16 and over, and who does not have either a District Nurse or an Active Social Work worker. First Contact provides a quick referral, quick assessment and where possible- a quick service. Customers are benefiting from this faster service which is improving referrals and assessment times for people in the city.

These are courses which help nurture a a caring and supportive relationship by carers and help understanding of the stages of a child's development from pregnancy through to 19 years through interactive activities. Forensic Medical Services (Victims of Sexual Offences) (Scotland) Act 2021
This new Act establishes a legal framework for consistent access to “self-referral” where a victim (over 16 years of age) can access healthcare and request a Forensic Medical Examination (FME) without first having to make a report to the police. In addition, and as part of a person centred approach, individuals will be able to request the sex of their examiner involved in their care.

This service can help by: finding out if you need to see a doctor, providing key information and advice to help with your problem, referring you to a physiotherapist or podiatrist if you need it.

If you’re elderly, disabled or have a long term health condition and want help to live safely and independently in your home, using equipment, technology or making adaptations to your home may be a good option for you.

Arranging or changing your DRS (Diabetic retinopathy screening) appointment
Most health boards have a diabetic retinopathy screening (DRS) service that can arrange appointments and answer any questions or problems you might have.When you receive your DRS invitation letter you might need to contact your local service to arrange a time to have the test. You can also ask for a new appointment if you fail to, or can no longer, attend your appointment.

Your first main appointment is your booking appointment (booking visit) with your midwife normally between 8 and 12 weeks of pregnancy. If you've just found out that you're pregnant, get the best start for you and your baby by making an appointment with a midwife
Most Health Boards in Scotland allow patients to book directly without seeing your Doctor, if your Health Board area is not shown, then contact the Practice for further advice.
